Rise Of The Tomb Raider : Endurance Mode RELEASED
The first round of Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC is out this week, nearly two full months after the game’s Xbox 360/One debut, bringing with it a new Endurance Mode for anyone wondering how a survival game might look crammed into the Rise of the Tomb Raider engine.
For the last few days, the biggest Rise of the Tomb Raider news has been the impending debut of the Steam version of the game. After a relatively modest launch, thanks largely to the ubiquity of Fallout 4 (which debuted the same day) and continued sales dominance of the PS4, few would likely argue that the game’s PC debut could bring a massive influx of players. After all, there are tens of millions of Steam users out there, many of whom are excited to play Rise of the Tomb Raider’s PC port. But Square Enix has been focused on another matter; specifically, the first round of Rise of the Tomb Raider DLC.
Endurance Mode is an asynchronous competitive multiplayer addition to Rise of the Tomb Raider that challenges players to explore new maps, based on real-world locales like the Siberian wilderness, and recover the most treasure. Along the way, you’ll need to make fires to keep Lara from freezing to death, find food to prevent starvation and take out the various enemies (human and otherwise) you encounter along the way. The $10 download doesn’t appear to advance Lara’s story in any way but seems fun for those who’d like an excuse to engage with the Rise of the Tomb Raider’s combat and tomb raiding mechanics for a few extra hours.
To get a closer look at Rise of the Tomb Raider’s new endurance mode, check out some of the gameplay videos published by YouTube users Mixed Up and Roli. Or just head over to the Xbox store, fork over $10 and check out the latest addition to Rise of the Tomb Raider for yourself.
